Dear Greater Bay Shore Community,
I believe there is a Y in every familY. As we continue our quarter-century celebration of the Great South Bay YMCA, I would like to say thank you to all of the members of this community who have been part of our story over the last 25 years.
I remember when my journey with the Great South Bay YMCA began. I had accepted the role of Associate Executive Director and everyone involved was focused on seeing our Y become a place that welcomed ALL people, even before it was in vogue to speak of “inclusion.” That inclusive spirit and welcome is just as alive today as it was in 1992.
The YMCA is dedicated to working daily toward improving lives through programs and services that nurture youth, foster healthy living and inspire social responsibility. We welcome people of all ages, from all walks of life and from all backgrounds, to join us in making our community stronger.
My life over the last 25 years has been enriched beyond words because of this adventure with the Y. We’ve worked hard to build and shape the Great South Bay YMCA as a place to welcome people from different circumstances, backgrounds and challenges. We literally watch our members—babies, youth, teens, adults, seniors, and families—reach their full potential before our eyes.
Along the way, we’ve created incredible opportunities to help fund our vital programs and services year after year. From gold and tennis classics, to sweet fairs and roasts, to gala events at the YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts —we enjoy our time together as staff, board members, volunteers, members of the community, and civic leadership that come together for the greater good.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for embracing our Y and letting it become the cornerstone of our community. Whether you have been a regular member of this branch, sent your children to summer camp here, or attended events at the Boulton Center: thank you. It goes without saying that none of what the Y has become could have been possible without YOU – our supporters, strategic partners, and elected officials who play a transformative role because you truly believe in our mission. We know that together, we CAN change lives on Long Island.
I look forward to celebrating the next 25 marvelous years with all of you!
